Son beats father to death after row over marriage

Keonjhar: A 50-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his son following a heated argument over marriage at Banspani village under Joda municipality area in Keonjhar district, police said Monday.
The deceased, identified as Ajay Sethi, was struck with a wooden plank by his son Bikas Sethi (25) during an altercation on Sunday night. According to police sources, Bikas had been pressuring his father to allow his marriage to a young woman. However, Ajay insisted that his son should get a job before getting married. This had been a source of frequent conflicts between the father and son.
On Sunday evening, when Bikas again raised the issue of marriage, it led to a heated argument between them. In a fit of rage, Bikas allegedly attacked his father with a wooden plank. When his mother attempted to intervene, she was also assaulted.
Ajay, who sustained serious injuries in the attack, was rushed to a private hospital in Joda where doctors declared him brought dead.
“We have arrested Bikas based on a complaint filed by his mother, Gurubari Sethy. The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem,” said Lokeswar Sahu, inspector in-charge of Joda police station. “Further investigation is underway,” he added.
