Software engineer sustains head injuries after falling while chasing mobile phone snatcher at Paranur railway station

Chennai: A 24-year-old software engineer suffered severe head injuries after falling on the platform at Paranur railway station on Monday night while chasing a man who snatched his mobile phone. Police identified the injured man as Divesh, 24, of Kancheepuram who is employed at a private company in Maraimalai Nagar. Police said Divesh, the son of a DMK functionary named Varadharajan, was travelling on an EMU train bound for Chengalpet from Kancheepuram. He was returning to his room in Maraimalai Nagar after attending the birthday celebrations of his mother in Kancheepuram.Police said Divesh was standing near the train door and was messaging on his phone when the train halted at Paranur railway station. A person inside the compartment grabbed Divesh’s phone, got off the train, and ran. When Divesh attempted to follow him, the train began moving. He lost his balance, fell onto the platform, and suffered injuries to the head. Other passengers alerted police while attempting to apprehend the robber, but he managed to escape. Some passengers took Divesh to a hospital in Potheri, where he remains under observation. His health condition is stable. Chengalpet Govt Railway Police are searching for suspect with help of CCTV camera footage. On July 8, 2023, S Preethi died when she fell on the platform of Indira Nagar MRTS station while trying to stop two men from snatching her phone.
