Bhubaneswar: The early morning calm at Mancheswar station here was disrupted on Wednesday when passengers of Bhubaneswar-Sonepur intercity express noticed smoke coming out from beneath their AC coach. Passengers moved away from the affected coach as railway technicians and police arrived. The station master activated emergency protocols, ensuring safety and preventing panic.
After a thorough inspection, East Coast Railway officials identified the cause as brake binding, a technical issue in which the brake remains partially engaged, causing friction and smoke. “The experienced maintenance team worked efficiently to resolve the problem, ensuring the safety of all passengers. We took no chances and followed all safety procedures,” said a senior railway official.
The incident caused a brief delay of around 30 minutes. “When the train was stopped at Mancheswar station, many passengers got down. I got down from the train with them. After the train was declared fit for running, we entered the coach,” said a passenger. No injury or loss to railway property was reported.
