Bhubaneswar: Smart Janpath, one of the prominent thoroughfares in the city, is set to receive a striking new addition to its landscape — an impressive hourglass installation near the bustling Vani Vihar Square.
The artistic structure, standing approximately 5ft tall, will serve as both a decorative element and a symbolic timepiece, further enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the already beautified Smart Janpath corridor.
The installation is part of the ongoing city beautification initiative aimed at transforming public spaces into more engaging and visually appealing environments.
Smart Janpath already has a number of such installations, including a giant bamboo lamp.
Currently, the stretch is adorned with elaborate thematic lighting installations, specifically designed to complement the ongoing Ekamra Utsav being held at the IDCO Exhibition Ground. “Priority stretches are illuminated for Ekamra Utsav,” Bhubaneswar Development Authority’s vice chairman, N Thirumala Naik, said.
The combination of the new hourglass installation and the existing decorative elements will contribute to making Smart Janpath a more dynamic and culturally rich urban space.
“Janpath is rightly transformed into a vibrant space to spend quality time,” Bomikhal resident Jiten Patnaik said.
“This integration of art, culture and urban design demonstrates the administration’s commitment to creating meaningful public spaces that serve both functional and aesthetic purposes. It is part of our city beautification drive,” city Mayor Sulochana Das said.
