Slain BJP worker’s wife meets Odisha CM | Bhubaneswar News
BHUBANESWAR: Sabitri Pahan, 26, the wife of slain BJP worker Dillip Pahan from the Khallikote assembly constituency in Ganjam district, met Chief Minister Mohan Majhi at the state secretariat here on Wednesday, a few hours after he took the oath as CM.
Dillip, a native of Srikrushnasaranapur under Khallikote police station, was allegedly murdered by a group of people on May 15 in a clash between the supporters of BJP and BJD in the village over putting up posters of a candidate.His brother Jitendra was also injured in the incident. The incident had occurred five days before the second phase of the assembly election.
Sabitri requested Majhi to take stringent action against the accused involved in the murder of her husband. “I want exemplary punishment for the miscreants who killed my husband and injured my brother-in-law. He has assured us of help,” she added.
Dillip’s family was invited as guests to the swearing-in ceremony of the chief minister and ministers at the Janata Maidan on Wednesday. “We thank the BJP for recognizing our family’s sacrifice. As a new government is formed in the state, we are hopeful for a positive outcome of our case,” said Ram Chandra Pahan, 55, the father of the deceased.
Ram Chandra said they have requested the chief minister to provide a job to Dillip’s wife so that she can look after her four-year-old child. “My son was our breadwinner. We have lost him. Now we need to take care of the future of my grandson,” he added.
Khallikote MLA Purna Chandra Sethy said many people were involved in the political murder of Dillip. “We have already written to the director-general of police to arrest everybody in connection with the case. We urged the CM to provide a job to Dillip’s wife,” he added.
Earlier, the BJP had provided Rs 10 lakh to the family members of the deceased on his 12th day of death. Meanwhile, police have arrested 20 persons for their involvement in the murder and intensified search operations to nab other accused persons. A four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ganjam was constituted to investigate the incident.
