‘Over 36k received skill training, 15k got placements in past 5 yrs’

Bhubaneswar: As many as 36,329 received skill development training and of which, 15,068 have got placement in different institutions in the past five years, state skill development minister Sambad Chandra Swain told the assembly on Friday.
Responding to a query raised by BJD MLA Arun Kumar Sahoo, Swain said the state govt through the Odisha Skill Development Authority is providing training to youths under the placement linked training programme.
“Govt has signed memorandums of understanding with various private companies and is providing skill development training to youngsters through public-private-partnership mode,” Swain said.
As per the minister’s reply, a highest of 10,399 people received training during 2022-23, followed by 9,256 in 2019-20, 8,108 individuals in 2023-24 and 5,415 in 2021-22.
A lowest of 3,115 individuals received training during 2020-21. Similarly, a highest of 4,000 individuals got placement during 2019-20, followed by 3,964 in 2022-23, 3,922 individuals in 2023-24 and 1,733 individuals in 2021-22. A lowest of 1,449 boys and girls got placement during 2020-21. The youngsters have received training in different trades such as electrician (both domestic and industry), plumbing, teaching, sewing machine operation, vision technician, carpenter, healthcare, food and beverage service and account assistants, among others.
They have also received training in solar PV installation, four-wheeler servicing, guest service, retail sale, bar bender and steel fixer, geriatric care assistant, multi-cuisine cook, beauty therapist, arc and gas welder and repair and maintenance of refrigerator.
The minister also revealed that during 2019-20, MoUs were signed with 17 companies for providing skill development training. The number was 11 in preceding year, 15 in 2021-22, 19 in 2022-23 and 27, during 2023-24. Moreover, the youths have got placement in various companies.
