Six poachers arrested in Sudargarh | Bhubaneswar News

Rourkela: Forest officials arrested six poachers and seized wildlife items in Sundargarh district on Thursday evening, following a well-coordinated operation by Bonai forest division.
The accused, who were allegedly planning a large-scale poaching operation in the region, include four residents of Sundargarh district — Raj Kumar Pradhan (35), Ramani Ranjan Patra (28), Narayan Hasti (41), and Bishnunath Hasti (55). Two others, Sarat Naik (50) and Bhima Kishan (27), are from Sambalpur district.
Acting on intelligence gathered over three months of surveillance, a team of 22 forest personnel led by DFO, Bonai forest division, Lalit Kumar Patra conducted the operation.
Officials seized five country-made guns, monkey skin, barking deer trophy, peacock feathers, porcupine remains, snares, bows and arrows, gunpowder, and pellets from them.
“The operation’s success reflects our team’s meticulous planning and determination,” said Patra. He said probe is on to uncover possible links to wider wildlife trafficking networks, particularly given that two accused are from neighbouring Sambalpur district.
The raid party also included ACF Jagannath Prasad Bishoyi and range officers Kailash Kishan and Debasish Nayak from Jarda and Bonai forest ranges respectively.
