Six-day ‘Saanjha Utsav’ kicks off at J P Setu Ghat | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: The six-day ‘Saanjha Utsav‘, organised by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC), commenced on Thursday, offering citizens a unique picnic experience by the river Ganga. The festival, held at the J P Setu Ghat in Digha, was inaugurated by minister for urban development and housing department (UD&HD), Nitin Nabin, alongside local MLAs Sanjiv Chaurasia and Arun Sinha.
According to officials, the festival has been organised to promote the rich cultural heritage and diversity of Bihar while providing a platform for women entrepreneurs and local artists to showcase their skills. The ghat has been specially prepared as a picnic spot for visitors.
Speaking at the inauguration, Nabin said, “The Saanjha Utsav is expected to attract thousands of visitors from across the state, providing a much-needed boost to the local economy. With its unique blend of culture, art and entertainment, the festival is set to become a major highlight of the city’s cultural calendar. Also, the site of JP Ganga Path, which has become a picnic hub, will have its riverfront developed. A detailed project report is being prepared for this and benefits will be seen soon in the future.”
The minister added that the festival would provide an excellent platform for entrepreneurs to showcase their products while highlighting the state’s cultural richness.
The event includes over 70 stalls displaying handicrafts and products made by women entrepreneurs. It also features a food court, activity zone, selfie zone and a cultural stage. Local artists are being given an open stage, free of charge, to perform and showcase their talents in music, dance, comedy and other arts.
PMC commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar highlighted the festival’s role in promoting self-reliance and cleanliness. “The corporation is making efforts to provide employment opportunities for urban women. This initiative has also benefited and raised awareness among the general public,” he said.
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for visitors, the PMC has arranged for parking, toilets and mineral water. Parashar added, “A bonfire has been arranged for both the employees of the corporation and visitors to the fair. Local artists can book slots to perform during these five days.”
