Singapore Prez visit historic: CM; says MoUs signed to bring investments | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Terming Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam‘s visit historic, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday said the MoUs signed with that country would attract investments to Odisha, which aspires to be a developed state by 2036.
“Through these eight MoUs, we aim for eight clear-cut outcomes for Odisha. Once these are implemented, our state will be on par with leading countries in the respective fields,” said Majhi after seeing off Shanmugaratnam at the airport.
Speaking about his last visit to Singapore, Majhi said they visited the industrial facilities there and discussed with industrialists and ministers to convince them to invest in Odisha. “We invited the Singapore President to visit our state. Fortunately, he honoured Odisha’s invitation and visited on Jan 17 and 18,” he added.
The CM said it was an honour for them to receive such a guest. He visited different art and craft centres, the heritage village of Raghurajpur in Puri district, and spent time purchasing artworks, handicrafts and handloom, he added.
“We have signed eight important MoUs. We are confident that this relationship between Singapore and Odisha will go a long way. We are crafting a clear road map for a bright future of the 45 million people of Odisha while addressing various current challenges. We are inviting major investors from across the country and the world to invest in Odisha,” he added.
“Odisha is in focus of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He visited Odisha four times after becoming PM for the third term. He is scheduled to visit Odisha on Jan 28 to inaugurate the Utkarsh Odisha event. The double-engine govt will work as a growth engine of the country,” he added.
From modern city planning to the establishment of new cities, petroleum, chemicals, green energy, and skill development, Majhi said Odisha’s programmes are fully prepared for development.
