MUMBAI: Led by Sant Harman Singh Khalsa, the Sikh Samaj Maharashtra, a representative body of the Sikhs in the state, has announced full support to BJP-Led Mahayuti in the upcoming assembly polls in the state.
“Over the last 2.5 years, the Mahayuti government has announced various schemes and implemented several policies for the welfare of the community. We have decided to vote for the Mahayuti candidates,” said Sant.
Convenor of Maharashtra Sikh Association and chairman, Maharashtra State Punjabi Sahitya Academy, Bal Malkit Singh, explained that the Mahayuti government, through intervention from deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, recently set up an 11-member Sikh Representation Committee to help the government implement schemes aimed at uplifting the Sikh community. He said that the community’s votes may impact the results on at least 120 seats in the state.
“The government has also nominated members from Guru Nanak Naam Leva Sangat to the minority commission and our demand to link Nanded city to various other places with Vande Bharat train services is also under consideration,” said Singh. He urged the community and others to go out and vote on November 20.
Addressing mediapersons at the Mumbai Press Club on Monday, senior leaders of the Sikh community in Maharashtra said that the Mahayuti government has played a significant role in the social and economic upliftment of the Sikh community. It has not only made beneficial announcements but also taken historic steps for their development. “Recently, for the first time, Sikh society and Guru Nanak Naam Leva Sangat were given proper representation in the Minority Commission by forming a committee of Sikh representatives. This is a landmark initiative,” said Sant
