Patna: Three people, including a police sub-inspector, his son, and nephew, were shot at during a clash over a land dispute at Sewati village under Dhanrua police station area of Patna district on Sunday. The incident occurred during a reconciliation meeting regarding a 12-bigha ancestral land dispute. The situation turned violent when about 10-12 unidentified assailants opened fire at the gathering near a banyan tree in the village. The injured were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Two of them are out of danger, while the condition of one is critical. Two persons have been arrested in this connection, police said.According to the police, sub-inspector Manoj Kumar Singh (50), his son Sawan Kumar (30), and nephew Rohit Kumar (30) were injured in the firing. Rohit was shot in the abdomen, Manoj in the leg, and his son Sawan was shot in the hand. Rohit is admitted to a private nursing home in Patna, while the injured SI and his son are admitted to PMCH.Masaurhi SDPO Kanhaiya Singh said, “Tension prevails in the village after the incident. Manoj is a serving SI at the Pathar Ghat police station in Saharsa. The police have recovered 10 empty bullet shells from the spot. Considering the volatile security situation, police from Dhanarua and nearby stations have been deployed in the village. The police are continuously patrolling to prevent any untoward incidents.“Dhanarua SHO, Shuvendu Kumar, said, “SI Manoj’s father-in-law, the late Siddheshwar Prasad, was claimed to have approximately 12 bighas of land as ancestral property in Sewati village. Some villagers had forcibly occupied the land. A meeting was organised under a banyan tree in Sewati village on Sunday to resolve this dispute.” “Manoj and Sawan are out of danger, while Rohit is under observation. An FIR has been filed against 12 named and several unknown persons. Two named accused have been arrested, but their names could not be revealed now as the investigation is ongoing. Other accused will also be nabbed soon,” the SHO added.
