Shinde accuses UBT Sena of ‘giving up Balasaheb’s ideas’

Mumbai: Deputy CM Eknath Shinde turned the attack on the Shiv Sena (UBT) in the legislative council on Tuesday while making a statement on the Nagpur riots, accusing it of abandoning the ideas of Balasaheb Thackeray, giving up the ideology of Hindutva and joining hands with the Congress, which he said is glorifying Aurangzeb. The council was adjourned briefly twice over the issue.
“There was a plan to arrest the BJP’s Girish Mahajan, Ashish Shelar, Pravin Darekar and Devendra Fadnavis. I overturned the gameplan and brought Mahayuti to power. You (Sena UBT) became helpless in your lust for power. You decorated Yakub Memon’s grave (convicted in the 1993 bomb blasts case) and during the LS polls showed the Pakistani flag. In two-and-a-half years, the Mahayuti worked hard, and you lost even the opposition leader’s post,” he said.
Shinde said that what he did—bringing down a govt—requires a lion’s heart. “You are a wolf in lion’s clothing. I am a lion’s child. I did it openly. You contested 100 seats and won 20; I contested 80 and won 60,” he taunted the UBT Sena, adding, “They gave up Hindutva, and now they are ‘Na ghar ka, na ghat ka’ (neither here nor there). Five times I told him (Uddhav Thackeray) let’s form an alliance with the BJP. Why did you go with the Congress? We kicked power—eight ministers. We did not know what would happen to us. I did not know I would become CM,” Shinde said. Shinde said that he had gone in favour of Hindutva ideology and is not power-hungry. “I am not even a politician, rather a social worker,” he said. The deputy chief minister said that this time, he called PM Modi and told him to take a decision (on the CM’s post) and told Union home minister Amit Shah the same.
