Severe Heatwave Alert in Bihar: IMD Issues Red Alert for Several Districts | Patna News – Times of India


Patna: As the state continues to reel under the scorching heat, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert on Wednesday, predicting severe heatwave conditions in several districts, including Buxar, Bhojpur, Aurangabad, Nawada, Nalanda, Siwan, and Arwal, until June 13.
The state’s relative humidity of 59% has further exacerbated the impact of the heatwave.

No relief in sight from severe heatwave: Met

This alert follows a day of dry weather and severe heatwaves in multiple districts, with nine others experiencing mild heatwaves.
Aurangabad has been one of the worst-affected districts in the past 24 hours, with temperatures soaring to a record 44.9 degrees Celsius. Other districts, such as Gaya, Rohtas, Sheikhpura, Buxar, Bhojpur, and Arwal, have also witnessed temperatures above 44 degrees Celsius. Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees above normal.
Rainfall activity has been minimal, with isolated rainfall recorded only in Kishanganj district and its surrounding areas. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall at a few places in the northeast and north-central parts of Bihar by June 14. However, the southwest and south-central regions are expected to remain dry till June 15-16.
An orange alert for heatwave has been issued by the IMD for June 13 and 14 for several districts.
