VIRUDHUNAGAR: Seven workers sustained injuries in a blast in a fireworks unit in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday afternoon.
The blast happened in Sathya Prabha Fireworks in Chinna Vadiyur village. The fireworks unit, owned by Mohanraj, is licensed by the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation.
On Wednesday, nearly 60 workers were involved in manufacturing crackers in working sheds in the unit. Around 1.30pm, during the lunch break, a blast was triggered in a working shed. Seven workers sustained injuries. They were rushed to the Virudhunagar Government Medical College Hospital for treatment. Nearly five working sheds collapsed.
On being alerted, fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the spot.
