Serial accident in Bengaluru: 7 vehicles damaged near Sadahalli Gate, 1 dead

Bengaluru: A 58-year-old man died in a serial accident after a speeding truck hit his car from behind, near Sadahalli Gate junction on Bengaluru-Ballari (BB) Road in the early hours of Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as MN Kumar Babu, a resident of MCEHS Layout in Jakkur. His wife, Varalakshmi, 60, sustained injuries. Based on primary investigation, Chikkajala traffic police said the incident happened around 6.10am near Sadahalli Gate junction.

Babu and his wife were on their way to attend a puja ceremony at a newly formed layout in Chikkajala. They were travelling in their car, driven by a chauffeur. As they reached the junction, the signal towards Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) turned red. Several cars, including Babu’s, stopped at the signal.
A rashly driven truck (Eicher), with registration number AP-39-V-2570, crashed into Babu’s car from behind. The impact of the accident was so high that his car got crushed between the truck and the other car ahead. That car, in turn, collided with another vehicle in front, leading to a domino effect.
A senior officer confirmed that the collision involved seven vehicles, including the truck. Babu died on the spot and his wife is undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.
People in five other cars suffered minor injuries. The truck driver fled the scene, abandoning his vehicle. Traffic police rushed to the spot and, with the help of a crane, cleared the damaged vehicles. Traffic was disrupted for over an hour.
According to police, Babu had stopped working and was being supported by his working son. A case has been registered against the truck driver, and efforts are on to nab him.
DCP (traffic-north) Siri Gowri DR said, “We have leads regarding the truck driver, and he will be secured at the earliest.”
