Senior Citizens: Senior Citizens Appeal for Caregivers | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Senior citizens in the state have urged the govt to involve non-govt or voluntary organisations as caregivers to provide necessary assistance to them in time of dire as well as basic day-to-day needs.
The request was made through a letter addressed to Bishnupada Sethi, principal secretary in the social security and empowerment of persons with disabilities department, by the Baristha Nagarika Vikash Parishad.
Organisation chairman Pramod Chandra Patnaik, a retired IAS officer, highlighted the challenges faced by the elderly, particularly those whose children have moved away for work.
Patnaik also expressed disappointment with the senior citizen helpline number provided by the Centre, which he found to be non-responsive when he tried to reach out for help. He pointed out that such situations are common, especially in urban areas like Bhubaneswar. Senior citizen’s policy of the state mandates engagement of such caregivers for them, Patnaik said.
The Parishad has proposed that caregivers be engaged to assist the elderly for a nominal fee.
