Security heightened at DRDO facilities in Chandipur | Bhubaneswar News
Balasore: In the wake of rising tensions between India and Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, security has been strengthened at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) facilities in Balasore district’s Chandipur.
The Integrated Test Range (ITR) and the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE), two critical defence installations under the DRDO, are now under enhanced surveillance with strict security protocols in place.
ITR plays a vital role in testing a wide range of missile systems, including ballistic and guided missiles. PXE is responsible for conducting proof trials of armaments, explosives and munitions, contributing to the development and validation of various weapon systems.
Advanced monitoring technologies — such as electronic fencing, coastal surveillance radars, infrared imaging systems and integrated guidance systems — have been deployed to ensure round-the-clock vigilance around the Chandipur test range. “Entry and movement on the premises are being strictly regulated, with multiple layers of security checks in place,” said a senior officer at ITR, Chandipur.
Strict access restrictions have been imposed on the Chandipur DRDO campus, curbing visitor movement and reinforcing identity verification protocols for both staff and contractors. “The movement of outsourced personnel has been limited, and tighter screening measures have been enforced for entry to Abdul Kalam Island (Wheeler Island). All staff members have been instructed to report any suspicious activity without delay,” he added.
Responding to intelligence inputs and heightened national security concerns, Balasore police have established 10 checkpoints across strategic locations in the district. “Rigorous blocking and mobile vehicle checks are being carried out, particularly along Bhadrak and Balasore districts and inter-state borders, especially near West Bengal. Enhanced security is also in place at key junctions such as Lakshmannath and Bhograi along NH-60,” said DIG (eastern range), Satyajit Naik.
He said coastal surveillance has been intensified, with marine police stations conducting frequent patrols to prevent unauthorised maritime activities. Law enforcement agencies are closely monitoring illegal movements, especially involving fishing boats and unidentified vessels.
“Additional security measures include intensified police patrolling, strict monitoring of antisocial elements, and adherence to the ministry of home affairs (MHA) guidelines of 2008 to maintain communal harmony,” he added.
