Security beefed up in Cuttack ahead of celebrations

Cuttack: Ahead of Republic Day celebrations on Sunday, security has been beefed up across the city, with chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi set to unfurl the national flag at Bidanasi Ground.
The venue of the main function has been shifted from Barabati Stadium in view of the ODI cricket match between India and England on Feb 9. City police have tightened security following intelligence inputs. DCP (Cuttack), Jagmohan Meena, along with district administration officials, is regularly inspecting the venue. “The ground will remain closed for visitors, including morning walkers, from Jan 24 to Jan 26 afternoon,” said Meena.
“Ten platoons of police forces have been deployed in the city, and special arrangements have been made for the CM’s visit. Additional forces have been deployed on the route from Bhubaneswar to Cuttack,” said Meena. “All police stations have been put on maximum alert, and patrolling has been intensified. Inspectors in-charge have been asked to keep a close watch on the movement of criminals. Extra security is being deployed at sensitive points,” he added.
Armed police personnel have been deployed on high-rise buildings near the venue to ensure a peaceful celebration. “All ACPs, station officers and sub-inspectors have been deputed to ensure foolproof security for VVIPs,” added the DCP.
The Cuttack administration has also geared up for preparations. There will be 10 tableaus on display at the event. “Twenty-five schools will showcase various programmes during the celebration. NCC, Odisha armed police, Odisha reserve police and civilian contingents will take part in the parade. A total of 52 platoons will take part in the parade,” said Meena.
Rehearsals of several activities, including the parade, were conducted on Friday.
