Security Battalion: Special Security Battalion Commissioned for Puri Temple | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Shree Jagannath Special Security Battalion, that was sanctioned in Jan to look after security around the Puri temple, will be commissioned in three months, said DGP Y B Khurania on Saturday.
The special battalion has 1,083 personnel to be deployed at strategic points to provide an overall robust security — both inside and outside the temple.
“A detailed deployment plan will be chalked out after discussion with the additional DG of Special Armed Police (SAP). We will put the commissioning of the battalion on fast track so that it is ready for deployment within the stipulated time,” Khurania told TOI.
The SAP will take a call regarding positioning of personnel considering the security requirement. There could be deployment near all the four entrances of the temple, entrances inside temples, where crowd management is required. Outside the temple, the personnel may be positioned in front of Singhadwar to regulate devotees’ darshan and VVIP visits. Their deployment may be required at vantage points, where security is likely to be compromised, police officials said.
With the creation of special battalion, the armed police reserve (APR) put at the disposal of Singhadwar police station with 139 personnel to look after temple security, was abolished. The new battalion will function under the command of the Puri SP.
