Scramble among opposition parties to become leading face of BPSC aspirants’ protest – Times of India

Patna: The ongoing protests by the BPSC aspirants, demanding cancellation of the preliminary test and re-examination, is escalating day by day. All the state’s major opposition parties are making their best efforts to capitalise on the aspirants’ stir.
There is a virtual scramble among the major opposition parties to become the leading face of the stir. RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and Independent MP Pappu Yadav tried to become the face of the agitation by visiting the students’ dharna site at Gardanibagh a few days ago. Election strategist-turned-politician and Jan Suraaj’s anchor Prashant Kishor virtually took over the stir on Sunday by leading the students to march to Gandhi Maidan and sit on the dharna in front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Other opposition parties like Congress and the CPI-ML (Liberation) are also making their bid to become the face of the agitation.
However, Kishor got into an ugly spat with protesting aspirants late on Sunday night in Patna, with students alleging that he intimidated them. The altercation took place around midnight, hours after police used water cannons to disperse the students from near the Gandhi Maidan.
A viral social media video captures the heated exchange between Kishor and the protesting aspirants. The footage shows Kishor said, “You have just demanded blankets from us and now showing attitude,” which triggered a response from the agitating students. The candidates responded sharply, questioning, “So, are you going to bully us over a blanket now?”
“We do not want your help, sir. You fled from the protest venue when the Patna police resorted to a lathi-charge,” a candidate was heard saying in the video. Former Union minister Lalu Prasad-led RJD shared the video on X and accused Kishor of trying to undermine the protests.
“These worthless market people have started considering politics as a business. They have considered the public as a business, just like they intimidate their paid staff and paid workers. This is Bihar, Bazaaru Babu—votes and issues will not be divided here with BJP’s money,” the RJD said in a post on X.
As the candidates’ stir enters its 13th day on Monday, the role of different private coaching centres has also come under the scanner of the district administration. Police recently summoned the heads of some famous coaching centres and asked them not to instigate the protesting candidates.
Unfazed by mounting pressure, the BPSC recently made it clear that the prelims exam, held on December 13 across the state, would not be cancelled over allegations of a question paper leak.
