Science Centre: Jeypore Science Centre Defunct: Delay in Opening Raises Concerns | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: The District Science Centre (DSC) in Jeypore, inaugurated by former chief minister Naveen Patnaik on February 28 on the occasion of National Science Day, is yet to open its doors to the public. Built at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore, the DCS was supposed to promote science and technology among school children.
The facility, equipped with various instruments related to physics and mathematics, lies neglected, the campus having been overrun by wild plants.
Jeypore MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati said the DSC was expected to spark an interest in science among children. “The current govt should take immediate steps to ensure the functionality of the science centre,” Bahinipati said.
The DSC falls under the jurisdiction of the district education department. Officials claimed they are yet to receive the necessary guidelines from the govt to operate the centre.
“We need dedicated staff, including demonstrators, security personnel and Group IV employees to run the DSC. But specific budget has not been allocated for recruitment,” said Prasant Kumar Mohanty, district education officer, Koraput. “Once the staff get hired, the DSC will start functioning. We are waiting for instructions,” he added.
