Rourkela: A private school owner-cum-principal has been sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a former student and threatening her. The verdict was pronounced by additional district judge P Surya Rao at the first track court, here on Friday.
Bibhuti Kumar Gupta (47) was found guilty of sexually assaulting a former student in Dec 2019. The incident occurred when the survivor, now 25, had approached Gupta seeking a fee waiver for her younger brother, who was studying at the same school.
According to court documents, Gupta called the survivor to his chamber on Dec 8, 2019, supposedly to discuss the fee waiver. There he sexually assaulted her and threatened her to stay silent.
The victim finally lodged an FIR on Feb 25, 2020. Gupta was arrested but later released on bail.
