SCCL, Raj to develop two power plants, produce 3,100MW energy

Hyderabad: The Telangana govt, through Singareni Collieries Company (SCCL), has expanded its operations beyond the state by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyuth Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL), a company owned by the Rajasthan govt. This partnership will create a joint venture to develop a 1,600 MW thermal power project in Telangana and a 1,500 MW solar power project in Rajasthan.
The total investment for these projects is set at 26,200 crore, with SCCL holding a 74% equity share and RVUNL 26%.
The MoU was signed in Jaipur, in the presence of Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, Telangana deputy CM Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, principal secretary of Energy Sandeep Kumar Sultania, and SCCL chairman and MD N Balaram.
“The agreement establishes a framework for inter-state cooperation to meet the long-term power demands of both states,” the Telangana govt said in a statement.
Bhatti Vikramarka described the MoU as a transformative initiative that demonstrates collaborative governance and sustainable energy planning. The agreement includes the establishing two major power projects, solar and thermal.
The partnership not only aims to increase base-load thermal power capacity but also reduce generation costs by incorporating solar energy, thus ensuring more affordable, reliable, and sustainable electricity for Telangana’s consumers.
The Telangana govt has expressed its commitment to ensuring long-term energy security, economic stability, and environmental sustainability through such strategic initiatives. Swift implementation of these projects will be prioritized, with both states looking forward to deepening their cooperation in the energy sector to drive economic growth and meet the evolving power needs of their citizens, the govt said.
