Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday criticised chief minister M K Stalin and his govt, pointing to alleged concerns about law and order in Tamil Nadu. He referred to reports of an Arakkonam DMK councillor’s arrest for alleged illegal gun possession and allegations of sexual harassment involving a college student and a DMK functionary. “People should protect themselves from DMK partymen,” he said.In a statement, Palaniswami said Stalin should be ashamed of “deteriorating law and order”. He alleged that a DMK functionary harassed a college student into complying with sexual demands from several of his partymen”. The student who reported the incident was being threatened by police, and the woman also released a video, claiming police intimidation, he said. “Arakkonam is a testament to the misrule of DMK,” said Palaniswami.He accused DMK govt of preventing AIADMK members from protesting the Arakkonam case while DMK was allegedly holding a rally in support of the accused. “Aren’t you ashamed?” Palaniswami asked, tagging the CM’s X handle. He asked why DMK was protecting the accused while emphasising his party’s commitment to securing justice for the girl.The former chief minister cited reports concerning an Arakkonam DMK councillor who was arrested for allegedly possessing guns without the required permits. He said, “CM should be ashamed of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.”
