Sarpanch’s husband, father-in-law murdered over family feud | Bhubaneswar News

Koraput: Two men were brutally murdered at Sariguda village in Likitipada panchayat under Padmapur police limits in Rayagada district late Friday night. The victims have been identified as Agadhu Gamang (40), husband of the local sarpanch Jenita Gamang, and his father Sumbura Gamang (65).
According to Jenita, the incident took place when five persons, including two women, stormed into the family’s residence and launched a violent attack with sharp weapons. While Agadhu and Sumbura were killed on the spot, Jenita managed to escape and sought refuge at a neighbour’s house. “It was terrifying. They attacked my husband and father-in-law with lethal weapons. I was lucky to escape,” recounted Jenita, who filed a police complaint naming five suspects.
She claimed the murders were the result of a long-brewing family dispute. A recent controversy surrounding a cancelled wedding reportedly sparked tensions, according to sources. Police rushed to the crime spot and launched an investigation with the assistance of a scientific team. Additional forces from Rayagada, Padmapur, and Gunupur were deployed to maintain law and order in the village. The bodies of the deceased were sent to Gunupur hospital for autopsy.
SDPO (Gunupur) Babuli Nayak said, “Preliminary investigation suggests the double murder is linked to a family dispute. One suspect has been detained for interrogation..”
