Sarpanch’s car attacked with cement block, petrol-filled condom in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district | Mumbai News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: Four persons allegedly shattered the windshield of a sarpanch’s SUV and hurled a condom filled with petrol inside the vehicle in Maharashtra’s Dharashiv district, police said on Friday.
The incident occurred around 10 pm on Thursday at Tuljapur, resulting in injuries to sarpanch Namdeo Nikam and another passenger, as stated by an official.
The incident took place whilst Nikam, who serves as the sarpanch of Mesai Jawalga, was travelling from Barul towards his village in his SUV.
Four individuals riding two motorcycles approached his vehicle and pelted eggs at the front windscreen, according to the official.
The attackers subsequently damaged the SUV’s windshield using a modified cement block as a hammer. They proceeded to throw a condom containing petrol inside the vehicle and doused it with the fuel, the official reported.
The Tuljapur police have registered a case under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 110 for attempted culpable homicide against the four unidentified assailants, based on Nikam’s complaint.
According to Nikam’s statement to the police, he resides in Pune and visits the village two to three times weekly. He has stated that he maintains no hostile relations with anyone in Mesai Jawalga, the official noted, adding that investigations are ongoing.
This assault on the village head occurs amidst widespread anger over the kidnapping and murder of Santosh Deshmukh, sarpanch of Massajog village, in Beed district earlier this month.
The opposition alleges that state minister Dhananjay Munde’s close associate Walmik Karad orchestrated the murder.
