Sanskrit scholar pens ‘epic’ on PM Modi’s life | Bhubaneswar News
Berhampur: A Sanskrit scholar from Ganjam district has authored a Sanskrit epic chronicling the life and works of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The 700-page work, ‘Narendra Arohanam‘, was unveiled last week at a youth festival in Veraval, Gujarat.
Somanath Dash, an associate professor at National Sanskrit University, Tirupati, spent four years crafting the epic, which comprises 1,200 verses (slokas) spread across 12 chapters. The work, published by Somnath Sanskrit University, includes English and Hindi translations.
“Modi’s ascetic political journey and struggle in life will always be inscribed in history,” said Dash (48), explaining his motivation to document the PM’s life story in Sanskrit. The work details Modi’s journey from his humble beginnings in Gujarat to his tenure as chief minister and his current role as PM.
The work follows the style of ancient Sanskrit epics like ‘Prataparudriyam’ and ‘Kavyaprakash’, presenting Modi’s life events and achievements in a systematic and figurative manner. Dash gathered material from various sources, including books, journals, speeches and Modi’s monthly radio address, ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
“Though I have never met the PM personally, works like Andy Marino’s ‘Narendra Modi: A Political Biography’ provided valuable insights,” Dash told reporters. The scholar from Nalabanta near Aska was felicitated by the Gujarat University during the book launch.
This is Dash’s first epic about a contemporary personality, though he has authored other Sanskrit works. The inclusion of Hindi and English translations makes the epic accessible to a wider audience.
