Sanjay Singh Rallies for Jitendra Awhad in Mumbra: Critiques Modi’s Governance | Mumbai News – Times of India

Thane: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and MP Sanjay Singh visited Mumbra on Saturday to campaign for NCP-SP MLA Jitendra Awhad, delivering strong criticism of both central and state govts.
Speaking at public meetings in Mumbra’s Almas Colony and Tanvir Nagar, Singh cited personal connections and political alignment as key reasons for supporting Awhad, particularly noting how the NCP-SP leader stood by Singh’s family during his imprisonment in Delhi for speaking against what he termed “Modi’s authoritarianism.”
“The law minister’s recent statements about taking control of Waqf Board lands are unconstitutional. How can they debate such legislation before the complete Joint Parliamentary Committee report is reviewed?” Singh questioned. He further challenged the Shinde govt’s priorities, urging focus on “real issues” such as education, employment, inflation, and women’s safety rather than what he described as “spreading misinformation and creating distractions.”
In response to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s recent statements in Maharashtra, Singh declared, “We won’t be divided or cut; we will defeat BJP.” He also criticised Prime Minister Modi’s claims about public safety, suggesting that “if people aren’t safe after ten years of his rule, he should resign.”
Dr Jitendra Awhad, addressing the gathering, highlighted concerns about rising inflation in Maharashtra, increasing attacks on women, and growing intolerance. He criticised the recent visit of the Union Home Minister to Maharashtra, accusing him of disrespecting Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The political dynamics in Mumbra are particularly interesting given the previous assembly election results. AAP’s candidate Abu Faizi secured 30,520 votes, finishing third behind Awhad (109,823 votes) and Sena’s Deepali Sayed (33,644 votes). This time, however, AAP has chosen to support Awhad’s candidacy.
