Same name, same civic school: 2 Anshikas shine in SSC exams

Navi Mumbai: It is a case of happy coincidences of two teenagers named Anshika. The two girls, who reside in humble one-room chawl houses and hail from Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh, were declared SSC board exam toppers by P M Shri Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj School in Airoli. And the similarities don’t end here. They both are interested in rifle shooting.Anshika Yadav, who scored 95% aggregate, told TOI: “Several students from our municipal school have done well and scored over 90% marks in the SSC exams because we had the option to also attend the special night classes tutorials. Science and Maths are my favourite subjects. I knew I would do well, but I was pleasantly surprised to top in my school and also overall in Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) area. My friend, Anshika Prajapati (92.80%) stood third in our school and her overall rank was sixth in NMMC.” Yadav lives with her parents and cousin sister in a one-room chawl tenement in a congested Rabale colony with open flowing drains. Her father is a factory worker with a meagre salary; so she always knew that education is the only doorway to go through and uplift her family’s financial condition. “I want to take up Science stream in junior college and aspire to join the govt service through UPSC as an IAS officer,” she said with quiet confidence in herself.Anshika Prajapati lives close by in Airoli node with two younger siblings and a widowed mother, who is the family’s breadwinner. “I am very happy for my friend Anshika Yadav who topped and other schoolmates who did very well in the SSC board exams,” she said. “I want to join govt service, possibly in the railways, after preparing for the competitive administrative exams. We are thankful to all our schoolteachers and principal Amol Kharsamble for supporting and encouraging us to do well in the exams.Prajapati, who had qualified for the 10m rifle shooting national competition in 2023, is serious about improving in this sport, while Yadav too is interested in rifle shooting, which is organised at Father Angel’s school in Vashi. Kharsamble said their school’s second ranker, Srushti Birajdar (93.8%), also comes from a poor background.
