MUMBAI: The 30-year-old man arrested by Bandra Police early on Sunday in connection with the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is a Bangladeshi national, Mumbai Police suspect.
Based on the material seized from him, police have reached this conclusion. He has been identified as Mohammad Sharif Ul Islam Shehzad.
The motive of the offence is theft. Shehzad will be produced before a holiday court on Sunday.
“We have added appropriate sections under the Indian Passport Act,” said DCP Dikshit Gedam.
Police said that Shehzad had entered Khan’s residence for the first time on the day of the crime. “The accused came to Mumbai five to six months ago. For a few months, he stayed in Mumbai and then on the fringes of the city. A fortnight ago, he reentered Mumbai,” Gedam said.
He was working with a housekeeping agency and worked in Thane. He was using various aliases.
