Saif Ali Khan stabbing case: Attacker sent to 5-day police custody | Mumbai News – The Times of India
MUMBAI: The man accused of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his Bandra residence has been remanded to five days of police custody.
The accused, identified as 30-year-old Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad, was arrested early Sunday morning from the Hiranandani Estate area in Thane, around 35 kilometers from the actor’s residence.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when the intruder broke into Khan’s upscale Bandra home and attacked him with a knife.
The actor sustained multiple stab wounds, including injuries to his neck and near the spine. He is currently undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital and is said to be in stable condition.
Shehzad’s lawyer claimed that his client is not a Bangladeshi national, as some reports speculated but has been living in India for a long time. Police are now investigating Shehzad’s background, including his motives for the attack and how he managed to breach security at the actor’s residence.
Authorities have stated that the accused will be interrogated further to determine whether the attack was premeditated and if there were any accomplices involved.
