Rupauli assembly bypoll on July 10 | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: The by-election to Rupauli assembly seat, a part of Purnia Lok Sabha constituency, will be held on July 10, the Commission said on Monday.
The nomination for the by-poll will begin on June 14 (Friday) while the counting of votes will take place on July 13, the commission said in a communique.
The bypoll was necessitated following the resignation of sitting JD(U) MLA Bima Bharti, who switched over to the RJD and contested the Lok Sabha polls as its candidate from Purnia seat.
Though Bharti, a five-time MLA from Rupauli seat, lost the Lok Sabha election in Purnia, which elected Independent candidate Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav as its new MP. It is the fourth victory of Pappu Yadav from Purnia seat. He won the Lok Sabha polls from Purnia in 1991 bypoll, 1996, 1999 and 2024.
“With the announcement of bypoll dates, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect in entire Purnia district,” the commission said.
The commission is also expected to announce the dates for the by-election to four other assembly seats as the respective MLAs became the member-elect of the Lok Sabha after registering victory in the recently concluded general elections.
The four assembly seats which are likely to go to the bypolls in near future are Imamganj and Bela (both in Gaya district), Tarari (Bhojpur) and Ramgarh (Kaimur district). The Imamganj’s sitting MLA Jitan Ram Manjhi won the Lok Sabha polls from Gaya (SC) seat and he was on Sunday elevated as the cabinet minister in the Narendra Modi-led government.
Similarly, the Belaganj’s sitting MLA Surendra Prasad Yadav won the Lok Sabha polls from Jehanabad seat, while Tarari’s sitting MLA Sudama Prasad registered victory from Ara Lok Sabha polls defeating former Union minister RK Singh. Ramgarh seat fallen vacant as its sitting MLA Sudhakar Singh won the Lok Sabha election from Buxar.
Two Rajya Sabha seats (of RJD leader Misa Bharti and BJP’s Vivek Thakur) and one seat of the Member of Legislative Council (of Devesh Chandra Thakur) have also become vacant in the state after trio won the Lok Sabha polls from Patliputra, Nawada and Sitamarhi, respectively.
