Rs 56cr weed seized at Mumbai airport; five arrested

Mumbai: Customs officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI) arrested five persons and seized hydroponic weed weighing 56.26 kg, worth Rs 56 crore.
This is the fifth case in the last two weeks where youngsters from Gujarat returning from Bangkok were caught smuggling weed.
On specific intelligence, the Air Intelligence Unit of Customs intercepted these five passengers identified as Ravi Odedara, Ramesh Odedara, Bharat Jethabhai, Nathabhai Odedara, and Ram Bhutiya, who arrived from Bangkok. Upon a thorough examination, Customs officers discovered the high-quality cannabis concealed in their trolley bags. The passengers were immediately taken into custody, and the narcotics were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The authorities are now investigating whether the arrested individuals were part of a larger drug syndicate. Further inquiry is underway to trace the source and intended distribution network of the seized contraband.
