RRR Centres: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation to Reintroduce RRR Centres | Bhubaneswar News

Civic body to reactivate RRR centres soon

Bhubaneswar: Looking for a place to submit your used clothes, shoes, bags, books and all? Well you will get one soon with the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) planning to reintroduce the RRR (reduce, reuse, recycle) centres across the city.
RRR is an initiative conceptualised by the ministry of housing and urban affairs in May last year as a part of which citizens have been provided with one-stop collection centres for submission of used materials, including plastic items.BMC last year launched a mega campaign and introduced the RRR centres in public places like shopping malls, bus stands and railway station, but it was discontinued due to manpower shortage, sources said.
BMC this time has decided to re-launch them by engaging an independent agency, preferably an NGO, which will set up and run the centres while educating the people.
“We have floated a tender inviting any interested agency to come forward and implement the initiative in an organised way. We will be providing handholding support to the agency,” said BMC mayor Sulochana Das said.
As a part of the plan, the agency will engage residents, institutions and students in sustainable practices through awareness campaigns, arrange collection camps in big apartments, gated communities and colonies.
