Rourkela: Rourkela police launched a manhunt to capture miscreants who assaulted two priests and stole Rs 10 lakh from the Jharabahal church’s donation box.
On Friday night, 8-10 masked and armed miscreants broke into the church. They entered the room where the two priests were sleeping and assaulted them. They demanded keys to the donation box and an almirah containing school fees and other funds, stealing around Rs 10 lakh before fleeing.
Church officials reported the incident on Saturday and police sent the injured priests to Rourkela Govt Hospital.A case was registered under IPC Section 395. On Sunday, Rourkela SP Brijesh Kumar Rai visited the church and reviewed CCTV footage to identify the culprits. “Effort is on to identify and nab them,” said R K Mishra, additional SP, Rourkela.TNN
