Rohit Pawar slams Mahayuti govt for spending Rs 2 crore on helipads for Shivaji statue inauguration

Mumbai: NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar on Thursday slammed the Mahayuti govt saying the state spent around Rs 2 crore on the temporary helipads for the inauguration of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue in Malvan by PM Narendra Modi. He said that was almost as much as the Rs 2.4 crore spent on the statue.
“Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s statue cost Rs 2.40 crores and temporary helipad construction cost for visitors to the statue unveiling programme is Rs 2.02 crores. The inauspicious programme of this govt is like this … that the doors and windows are more expensive than the house,” he said in a post on X.
“Rs 78 lakhs, Rs 44 lakhs, and Rs 79 lakhs were spent by the state govt to construct three temporary helipads. The most surprising thing is that the tender was floated in December 2023 and the work orders were placed two months earlier in September 2023. This means that robbers were present even before the village was established. Does it cost so much to set up a temporary helipad and was this tender done for brokers? Research is needed on this. The state govt should answer this,” Pawar said in his post.
Leader of the opposition Vijay Wadettiwar of the Congress too slammed the Mahayuti govt. “Three helipads were constructed for the Prime Minister to attend the event. On November 30, tenders were floated for the work of the helipad, but after completing the tender process in 3 days, the govt constructed 3 helipads worth Rs 2.3 crores. Why is the work of the people not done in the state as fast as these works were done? This govt is only sitting to organise events and the ministers are working on how to eat the commission from each event. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was not spared by the commission eaters. First, they betrayed the party by making a deal for power and now they made a deal with the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to eat the percentage,” Wadettiwar said in his post on X.
