‘Rlys spends over 81% of 2024-25 Budget allocation’ | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Indian Railways has spent over 81% of the budgetary allocation in 2024-25 for the development of infrastructure in Odisha.
The Centre had allocated Rs 10,586 crore for development of the railway sector in Odisha. In an official statement, the railways said that so far 81.78% of the 2024-25 Union Budget’s allocation for Odisha’s railway sector was incurred towards key projects aimed at improving connectivity, safety, and infrastructure.
“Up to Jan 2025 of the current fiscal year 2024-25, Rs 8,657.2 crore were spent. This is a testament to the ministry of railways’ commitment towards infrastructure development in Odisha,” said an East Coast Railway (ECoR) source on Friday.
The railways also stated that eight new projects were sanctioned in 2024-25, amounting to Rs 18,118 crore. Five major rail flyovers were sanctioned, costing Rs 1,173.1 crore, along with sanction for the final location survey for a double line flyover.
Out of Rs 1,160 crore allocated for the Khurda Road-Balangir new line project, around Rs 913 crore was spent by Jan. It is expected that expenditure will reach more than Rs 1,100 crore by the end of the financial year, said ECoR.
For the Bhubaneswar station redevelopment project, over Rs 269 crore was spent, and the project is 60% completed. Apart from this, Rs 50 crore were spent on Puri station, and Rs 168.3 crore was spent on Cuttack station, official sources said.
