Patna: Legislators have adopted out-of-the-box techniques to grab attention during Assembly sessions. While some have arrived in the House on a bullock cart, others have chosen a rickshaw, a cycle, or even a horse.
On Wednesday, RJD legislator from the Mahua Assembly seat in Vaishali district, Mukesh Kumar Raushan, reached the Assembly blindfolded to attend the winter session. He also held a placard with messages critical of the govt.
The ‘blindfolded protest,’ which drew everyone’s attention in the House, targeted CM Nitish Kumar with messages about “deteriorating law and order,” “growing corruption,” and the “flourishing liquor trade” in the state.
While the placards in his hands grabbed the spotlight, he quietly walked inside the Assembly premises. He alleged that the state, under CM Nitish, had slipped into a “mess” due to a number of “scandals.”
The young MLA, considered close to former Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, used his unique method of protest to highlight the opposition’s concerns over various issues and launch a targeted attack on the ruling alliance.
Notably, in 2013, former RJD MLA from Jagdishpur, Dinesh Kumar Yadav, had also staged a protest against liquor when prohibition had not yet been implemented in the state. Instead of slogan-shouting or organizing a sit-in with supporters, the MLA attended the Assembly proceedings wearing a kurta-pyjama painted with graffiti depicting the grim impact of liquor on families.
