Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday declared that the Congress party aims to return to power in Telangana for a second consecutive term—with the decisive support of one crore women from self-help groups (SHGs).Speaking at an event organised at We Hub, where he launched a series of women acceleration programmes, the CM said the Congress govt sees Mahila Shakti groups as the foundation of both political empowerment and economic transformation in the state.Framing women’s support as central to the party’s vision, Revanth emphasised that the Congress’s political future and Telangana’s economic growth are intertwined with the empowerment of one crore women members through skilling, entrepreneurship, and welfare initiatives.Revanth said that the Congress secured over 92 lakh votes in the 2023 assembly elections and declared the party’s ambition to secure its second term in 2028 with the strength of one crore women voters. “If one crore women stand united, they can install govts or unseat them, shape policies, and dictate the direction of governance. This is the power of Mahila Shakti,” he asserted.“There are already 67 lakh members in Mahila Shakti groups across Telangana. Our goal is to expand this to one crore empowered women—not just in numbers, but in prosperity. We are committed to transforming them into crorepatis, creating a generation of financially independent women entrepreneurs,” he further said.In a strategic move to ensure comprehensive empowerment, the CM instructed officials to prepare personalised health and skills profiles for all Mahila Shakti members. These will be integrated into their identity cards, ensuring access to healthcare, and identification of individual and group entrepreneurial capabilities. “A healthy woman is a powerful force. If one crore women are financially independent and healthy, they will not only transform Telangana into a trillion dollar economy but also become an inspiration for the rest of India,” Revanth said.He reiterated the govt’s commitment to offering robust institutional support through We Hub, partner organisations, and govt schemes to help women achieve this ambitious goal.Highlighting Congress’s deep-rooted legacy in women empowerment, Revanth invoked the leadership of Indira Gandhi, who demonstrated national strength in war and governance, and Sonia Gandhi, under whose UPA leadership landmark laws such as the Right to Education, Right to Information, and the National Food Security Act were passed.“The Congress has always believed in Mahila Shakti—not as a slogan, but as a guiding principle. Our govt will support women in every field they aspire to enter, whether it is entrepreneurship, education, transport, or energy,” he asserted.Revanth outlined a comprehensive array of ongoing and upcoming welfare schemes for women. “We are offering free bus travel for women, subsidised gas cylinders at ₹500, award of the ₹130 crore school uniform stitching contract to women’s groups, allocation of petrol bunks and solar power generation units, creation of a 3.5-acre market hub in Hi-Tec City exclusively for women entrepreneurs, management of Amma Adarsha Pathashalas in villages and tribal hamlets, deployment of 600 RTC buses managed by women,” he claimed.The CM further pledged that if Mahila Shakti members successfully manage 1,000 MW solar power plants, the govt would entrust them with an additional 1,000 MW, contributing to the state’s energy needs while fostering women-led green entrepreneurship. He said more buses will be handed over to women to manage them in RTC.Revanth concluded on a symbolic note, saying he presents locally made products by Mahila Shakti groups to international dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a mark of Telangana’s pride and the capability of its women.
