Retd banker among 2 held for acid attack on advocate | Bhubaneswar News
Berhampur: Police on Sunday arrested a retired bank manager and a resident of Andhra Pradesh in connection with an acid attack incident that took place nearly three months ago in Gajapati district’s Paralakhemundi. According to the police, the bank manager hired two persons to throw acid at a senior advocate over a monetary dispute.
Dadu Satish (30) of Visakhapatnam was nabbed while he was on Konark Express. “D Venket Rao (65), the retired manager of Paralakhemundi, was nabbed from Vizianagaram (in Andhra Pradesh),” Gajapati SP Jatindra Kumar Panda said.
Rao had hired Satish and another person for throwing acid on the advocate. Police have identified the other accused in the case and a search was underway to nab him.
The incident took place on Nov 9 when two bike-borne miscreants threw acid at Patti Ram Rao (65), the advocate, while he was at home. Patti is still hospitalised in Visakhapatnam and one of his eyes has been damaged, police said.
Satish also sustained acid injuries on his right hand.
“As the victim did not name any of the accused and the CCTV footage was unclear, it was very difficult for police to identify the miscreants. After analysing 450 call records, verifying 220 motorcycles in Andhra Pradesh and reviewing court cases of the victim, we could nab the accused,” Panda added.
According to the police, Rao hired the two miscreants from Visakhapatnam for the task. He gave them each Rs 1 lakh as advance and assured them of giving another Rs 1 lakh once the job was done.
As per the police, Rao gave Rs 31 lakh as loan to one of his friends for running a bar. Though his friend was paying him the interest money, he did not return the principal amount. Rao also helped him secure a bank loan of Rs 55 lakh. Despite all his help, Rao did not get his money back, allegedly upon the insistence of the advocate, who kept all the original agreement documents.
Rao then devised a plan to teach the advocate a lesson and hired the two for throwing acid on Patti.
Police have seized a motorcycle and a smartphone from the arrested duo’s possession, Panda added.
