Repair of 3-km service lanes from Satsang Vihar to Palasuni starts | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: In a much-needed respite for commuters, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) undertook the repair work of the congested service lanes of NH-16 from Satsang Vihar to Palasuni, a 3-km stretch.
The service lanes on both sides of the NH adjacent to Rasulgarh flyover were in a poor condition for quite a long time, with uneven surfaces and potholes making commuting arduous for people.
Surrounded by the densely populated localities of Rasulgarh, Satsang Vihar, VSS Nagar, Palasuni, and Mancheswar, this particular stretch of NH-16 experiences heavy traffic flow, especially on its service lanes, with two and four-wheelers causing congestion during peak hours.
“It’s been years since these service lanes remained in a deplorable condition. We submitted the grievances repeatedly to the authorities, and finally, now they are repairing the lanes. It is a welcome step,” said Anish Patra, a Rasulgarh resident.
Apart from the dilapidated condition, these service lanes on this particular stretch of the highway also experienced encroachment issues by local street vendors. These lanes are also considerably narrower compared to other service lanes of the highway.
“Encroachment is a significant challenge these service lanes face. The authorities are rightly repairing these lanes. I hope they will also address the encroachment and congestion issue and expand the road as required for better commuting,” said Radhika Jena, a Mancheswar resident.
NHAI project director, Bhubaneswar circle, K. Nageswara Rao, said they were awaiting a dry spell to commence the repair work of the service lanes. “The overlaying of the lanes is completed, and the marking will be done next,” he said.
Rao further stated that the contractor was instructed to undertake the repair work exclusively at night to ensure smooth operations without disrupting regular traffic. “Most of the patch work is already completed now,” the project director added.
