Govt announces spl puja for Rath Yatra mishap

Bhubaneswar: The state govt announced to conduct a special puja after mishap occurred during Rath Yatra when Lord Balabhadra’s idol fell on servitors during the ‘pahandi’, which is considered a bad omen.
After consulting pandits on Mukti Mandap, the state govt will perform a ‘pratikar puja’ (remedial ritual), said law minister Prithviraj Harichandan. The pandits will decide when the ritual will be performed.
“Whatever happened during the Adapa Mandap pahandi was an accident. Through proper verification of video footages, it was found that the idol of Lord Balabhadra did not fall after it slipped off. Rather the idol rested on the shoulders of servitors,” said Harichandan. He said an enquiry committee formed to probe the mishap found that the incident took place due to the negligence of servitors.
“The temple’s managing committee has asked the three-member enquiry committee to re-examine and provide a detailed report giving reasons for the mishap,” said Harichandan.
