Rape: Man sentenced to 20 years for raping minor girl in Kandhamal | Bhubaneswar News
Berhampur: A special Pocso court at Phulbani in Kandhamal district on Tuesday sentenced a 26-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment for repeatedly raping a girl aged around 14 years.
Additional district-cum-special judge Rajesh Dash also imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh on the convict. “The convict will have to undergo an additional 13 months of imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine amount,” said special prosecutor Asim Praharaj.
“The court also directed the district legal services authorities to pay Rs 6 lakh compensation to the survivor,” he added.The convict was out on bail, sources said.
Sources said the girl, when she was in Class VIII in 2018, was going to her friend’s home for studies. The convict is the brother of her friend. Despite her unwillingness, he allegedly raped her and her ordeal continued for around four years. He also threatened her not to disclose the matter to anyone. The girl later disclosed the matter to her elder sister, when she enquired about her ill health. The mother of the survivor lodged an FIR against the convict on Nov 19, 2022, after her elder sister told her parents.
