Kendrapada: The additional district-cum-special judge (Pocso), Jajpur district, sentenced a 25-year-old man to 20 years of imprisonment on Saturday for kidnapping and raping a 15-year-old girl two years ago. The court imposed a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh on convict Rakesh Mallick. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional 13-month jail term. The court also directed the Odisha State Legal Services Authority (OSLSA) to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the survivor.
The girl’s father had filed a complaint on Nov 3, 2022, stating that his daughter was missing on Nov 1 and suspected the involvement of Rakesh.Police later traced him and the girl to Tamil Nadu. Investigations revealed that he had kidnapped and raped the girl.
“Ten witnesses, including the girl, deposed before the court. Based on their statements and the medical report, the court convicted the accused,” said Rajeev Mohanty, special public prosecutor.TNN
