Rape Cases: Drop in Rape and Murder Cases in 2023: Government Report | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: The state recorded a drop in rape and murder cases in 2023 compared to 2022, according to a white paper released by the govt on Friday.
A total of 2,826 rape cases were registered last year compared to 3,184 in 2022 and 3,327 in 2021. The state reported 1,362 murder cases in 2023 compared to 1,379 in 2022 and 1,394 in 2021.
However, the registration of cognisable offences went up from 1,78,190 in 2022 to 1,99,954 in 2023.The white paper stated the law and order situation was largely peaceful last year.
Three Maoists were killed during exchange of fire with security personnel in 2023. At least 13 Maoists were arrested and five others surrendered during the period, read the white paper.
But the state witnessed an increase in cybercrime and economic offence cases. It registered 2,348 cybercrime cases and 1,362 economic offences in 2023 compared to 1,983 cases of cybercrime and 1,142 economic offences in 2022.
