Rallies promote shop signage in Odia | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: The Gajapati administration on Friday organised a rally in Paralakhemundi to create awareness among traders on writing names of their business establishments in Odia. The rally was conducted as part of the fortnight-long Odia Pakhya celebrations by the govt.
Several officers, women, and labourers took part in the rally, which was flagged off by Gajapati collector Bijay Kumar Das near the collector’s office. The rally culminated near the palace. “During the rally, we requested the shopowners to write the names of their shops and business establishments in Odia,” said Bharati Behera, district labour officer (DLO), Gajapati.
According to the Orissa Shops and Commercial Establishment Act, all organisations or establishments must have signboards in Odia. They are allowed to use any other language along with Odia, sources said.
A similar rally was also held at Chhatrapur, the district headquarters town of Ganjam district, organised by the district labour office (DLO). Ganjam collector Dibya Jyoti Parida flagged off the rally.
