Rain, thunderstorm warning for next 4 days

Bhubaneswar: The state will experience a fresh spell of rainfall and thunderstorm over the next four days due to several atmospheric disturbances affecting eastern and central India, IMD said on Wednesday.
The IMD bulletin stated that two active troughs in the upper atmosphere are significantly influencing the weather across the region. One trough is extending from Sikkim to north Odisha across West Bengal and Jharkhand, between 3.1 and 5.8 km above mean sea level. Another trough is running from a cyclonic circulation over east Madhya Pradesh to Gangetic West Bengal, passing through Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand, and extends up to 1.5 km.
“These systems are enhancing moisture incursion and triggering convective activity, leading to isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Odisha,” said director of IMD’s regional centre, Manorama Mohanty.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds across many districts until April 21, with gusty winds possibly reaching up to 40–50 kmph in some areas.
In the last 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall occurred in several parts, while heavy rainfall was reported at one or two places in Kalahandi, Cuttack, Kendrapada and Keonjhar districts. Hailstorms were also reported in Kandhamal. Madanpur Rampur in Kalahandi district recorded a maximum of 90 mm of rain, followed by Cuttack, which recorded 80 mm of rainfall on Tuesday. The highest temperature of 40 degrees Celsius was recorded in Jharsuguda, while Nabarangpur recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 17.6C.
Rain was accompanied by a drop in day temperatures in several areas. Coastal and interior Odisha recorded a 2–4 degrees drop in maximum temperature.
