Rain: Heavy Rain Causes Traffic Chaos in Bhubaneswar |

Bhubaneswar: A heavy spell of rain on Tuesday afternoon led to severe waterlogging in various parts of the city, leading to traffic jams and causing inconvenience to commuters and schoolchildren.
The rain started at 1:45 pm and continued until 2:30 pm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said Bhubaneswar received 48 mm of rainfall in less than an hour.

The downpour hit traffic movement on several roads, including the National Highway in front of the ISKCON temple in Nayapalli, the stretch between Bomikhal and Rasulgarh Square, Forest Park, Jagamara, Kalinga Studio Square, Subhas Nagar Basti, Rajiv Nagar, Laxmi Sagar, Ganganagar to Airport, and Rudrapur.
“The morning was sunny, but rain suddenly began pouring heavily while I was on my way home after picking up the kids from school. Within minutes, the roads were flooded, and we were stuck in traffic. Almost all roads are full of potholes, and after rain, it is impossible to distinguish a crater on the road, making it risky for riders,” said Priyanka Mohanty, a homemaker and resident of Nayapalli.
Ramesh Swain, a marketing executive, said most of the city roads have become non-commutable with large potholes. “There is a high risk of accidents while manoeuvring during rush hours. Moreover, the rain made commuting impossible. I decided to wait rather than struggle in the traffic jam even though I had an urgent meeting,” added Swain.
According to the IMD bulletin, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the east-central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal on Aug 29. Due to this system, Odisha is likely to experience an active wet spell from Aug 28 to 31. The IMD issued a yellow warning for heavy rain (7-11 cm) in 17 districts on Wednesday and Thursday, while an orange warning was issued for extremely heavy rain (7-20 cm) in the Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada districts on Friday and Saturday. In light of the warning, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted district collectors, where a heavy rain warning has been issued, to take precautionary measures.
