Patna: The railways will set up 61 ‘Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendras’ across the country, of which five will be located at Ara, Hajipur, Samastipur, Chhapra and Bhagalpur in Bihar.
Earlier on March 12, 2024, some ‘kendras’ were made functional at 50 locations in the country, including the Patna Junction, Darbhanga and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction falling under the East Central Railway (ECR).
According to the ECR’s chief public relations officer (CPRO) Saraswati Chandra, the railways has invited applications from interested people to set up ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendras’ at the shortlisted stations.
“The railways will provide outlet space either in the station’s circulating area or in the concourse area by the first week of August,” he said, adding that such an initiative will generate an avenue of employment opportunities.
The purpose behind setting up ‘Jan Aushadi Kendras’ is to provide low-cost generic medicines to passengers.
