Railways to launch relief road vehicles for fault repairs

Patna: Faced with frequent breakdowns and minor faults, the Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR) has devised a strategy to address the operational faults quickly. The railways has decided to launch accident relief road vehicles (ARRVs), which will reach the spot soon after breakdown and address the minor faults on a priority, said Danapur divisional railway manager (DRM) Jayant Kumar Choudhary.
“The railways has been rushing accident relief trains from Danapur and Jhajha in case of any breakdown and minor faults in operations. They often takes much time to reach the accident sites, incurring a substantial loss of revenue. Thus railways has worked out a plan to launch the ARRV system, which will reach the sites of minor breakdowns in any part of the division in lesser time,” he said.
The ARRVs will be stationed at three strategic locations—Fatuha, Ara and Rajgir—to cover each route of the division in case of any emergency. Launching of this plan is likely to incur an expenditure of about Rs 5.5 crore and the railways intends to make it operational from December 2024, the DRM said.
The railways will customise three heavy vehicle trucks, having a capacity to 9 tonne each, and modify them into ARRV to attend to the emergency needs. The modified ARRVs will be equipped with seats for staff, storing of essential materials and tools to rectify minor faults in tracks, wheels, coaches, wagons and signalling system, the DRM said, adding this measure is likely to reduce ‘downtime’ and enhance efficiency of the staff to address minor breakdowns in the traffic operations.
